Village School Management
Village is primarily designed as a companion product which leverages existing student records in a Student Information System and exposes functionality and data reports beyond the capability of the native system.
The application is a SQL Server-driven application through a .NET front-end application. The system uses common Javascript libraries and plug-ins to present content:
- JQuery
- JQuery-UI
- Bootstrap
- Material Design Bootstrap
Data linkages to source systems can be established a number of ways:
- Periodic data extracts from the source system (Clever, custom-built)
- Live connections to data sources into SQL Server and data modelling
- Installation in the same database engine with data modelling
The platform is based on database-driven output and therefore has no requirement for regular recompile or file copy during updates and enhancements or module additions. The .NET front-end is not updated, as the application output and functionality is driven by SQL Stored Procedures. This means that updates to application behaviour is achieved through updated procedure definitions only.
The application is broken into several modules with different aspects of functionality separated by categories of user-requirements, work effort, and licensing requirements.
In summary, the modules are in these categories:
- Core Application & Base Reports - The platform itself, with the support for authentication, responsive design, and base reports constitutes the primary licensed application. This platform becomes the 'springboard' for other functionality to be added to the organization's installation with minimal effort. The Core Application & Base Reports are divided into two categories depending on the organization's requirements:
- K-12 Base Reporting - Core reporting supporting Kindergarten-Grade12 environments -Class / School Enrolments, Staff, Special Education, Achievement, Attendance, ELearning, OnSIS. This includes the option for Parent/Contact as well as Student access in addition to school staff.
- Post-Secondary Base Reporting - Core reporting supporting Post-Secondary Environments - Class Enrolments, Achievement & Transcripts, Programs, Attendance. This includes the option for Student access in addition to school staff.
- Attendance - Attendance tracking for either or both base environments.
- Gradebook
- Analytics (under construction) - Longitudinal and Leading Indicators reports on all available data.
- Special Education (under construction) - Track IEP and IPRC information.
- Staff Approvals & Expense Tracking (FMZ) (under construction) - Workflows for PD Opportunity tracking and associated Expense Claims.
- Social (under construction) - News Feed platform for school community and partners. This includes classroom level feed content.
- Tasks (under construction) - Task tracking utility.
- SIS PS (under construction) - Stand-alone student management system for Post-Secondary.
- SIS K12 (under construction) - Stand-alone student management system for K-12.
The platform makes use of the Material Design specifications and includes common familiar screen layouts of double navbar navigation and collapsible components.
The application is designed to be fully responsive on anything from a small phone form-factor to a large desktop display.
Embedded in the application is the ability for end-users to make change suggestions and request functionality for the platform. The information received through this feedback is evaluated for implementation.
